Electricity

Utilities Services provides water and sewer services to residents of the city and the surrounding community. These services include pumping and treating raw water from 58 wells; distributing the finished water to more than 32,000 homes, condominiums and businesses; and installing and repairing water meters. The utility must also make sure the water and wastewater systems are operating in compliance with the standards of local, state and federal regulatory guidelines.
Water
City residents pay for water on a bimonthly billing cycle. A minimum deposit of $80 is required, depending on the size of the meter. Transfer fees start at $15. There is a capacity charge of $12.10 per residential unit and a $2.70 customer charge per meter. A commodity charge (rate depends on number of gallons used bimonthly and ranges from $0.45 per 1,000 gallons up to 25,000, $1.09 per 1,000 gallons up to 50,000 and $1.41 per 1,000 gallons over 50,000) is designed to encourage conservation. Sewers
The residential charge is $13.19 for the first bathroom and $6.59 for each additional. Residents are billed bimonthly along with the water charges. There is a 25 percent surcharge on accounts outsides the city limits.
Utility Tax
There is a 10 percent tax on the gross amount of all water fees included with the service charge on the bill. This tax is applicable only on accounts within city limits.
Municipal Services
This department provides services including solid waste collection, fleet and building maintenance, dredge and street maintenance, animal control, traffic engineering and maintenance, and storm water management. It also actively participates cooperatively with the Solid Waste Authority in a citywide recycling program for both residential and multi-family residential units. Animal Care
The Animal Control Division of Municipal Services cares for stray or unwanted household pets and arranges for adoption. Adoption is $67 for puppies (including non-optional leukemia tests), $58 for adult dogs (with leukemia tests), and $54 for cats (including leukemia tests). All prices also include other vaccinations (except rabies) and de-worming. A $50 refundable deposit is required for unsterilized animals leaving the shelter, with an appointment to return for surgery. There is also a pet cemetery on the premises. Sanitation
The Sanitation Division of Municipal Services schedules bulk collections four times yearly for each section of the city. Residential solid waste collection is done twice a week (vegetative waste should be bundled separately). Pickup schedules, routes and other detailed information on waste disposal is mailed to residents and is also available at City Hall. Gas
More and more consumers have access to natural gas in Boca Raton. It’s provided by the Florida Public Utilities Co, 325 N.E. Second Street, Delray Beach, (561) 278-2636. This company and several others provide propane gas as well.
